M.Sc. Maximilian Sackel

I am developing a muon detector for boreholes to reduce uncertainties and costs during exploration. The aim is to develop an imaging measurement method to visualise the density distribution and possible rock properties in a cone-shaped area around the exploration borehole (see figure). The applications are diverse and range from geothermal energy and raw material extraction to subsoil exploration. In cooperation with the working group of Prof. Dr Fritsch et al., I am setting up a particle physics laboratory measuring stand for underground conditions. The aim is to create one of the first commercial applications of astroparticle physics and thus provide valuable information for the infrastructural utilisation of the ground.
